Colchester General Hospital

Colchester General Hospital Colchester General Hospital has one of the highest concentrations of advanced laparoscopic expertise in the UK. This, combined with our two Storz OR1 integrated laparoscopic operating theatres, means that we are probably performing more advanced laparoscopic surgery than anywhere else in the country.

As well as the standard advanced laparoscopic operations such as common bile duct exploration, hernia repair, fundoplication and splenectomy, we regularly perform laparoscopic oesophagectomy, gastrectomy, nephrectomy and pyeloplasty and are performing around 150 laparoscopic colorectal resections per year for benign and malignant disease.

The ICENI Centre has pioneered minimally invasive surgery and is proud to announce the opening in November 2009 of a dedicated integrated laparoscopic operating theatre (STORZ OR1) with integrated endoscopic capabilities. This has once again changed the conventional approach to tackling surgical problems, in this case management of emergency surgical patients.
